June 22nd - 26th 2010
Mid Wales - Rhayader and Llandrindod Wells
Nowhere is the Commonwealth ideal better expressed than when anglers come together in friendly rivalry. Come June that wonderful camaraderie will be matched by the quality and hospitality of Wales within the beautiful and scenic surroundings of the mid-Wales Countryside. The Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championship will surely provide an event all participants will enjoy and commit to memory – win or lose!
I believe the first ever Commonwealth Championship was actually fished here in Wales. It was the year the World Fly Fishing Championship was held in the Wrexham area of north Wales. Immediately after the World Championship the Commonwealth Championship was held on Llyn Brenig, Cerrig-y-drudion – both events having been organized by the Welsh Salmon & Trout Angling Association (WSTAA).
This year, working in tandem with the Angling Associations of Rhayader, Builth Wells, Clywedog and Tal-y-Llyn Lake; the WSTAA has created a challenge and a setting that the leading world fly fishermen will thoroughly enjoy. As for the social programme – what can be said other than this is the ‘Land of Song’.
The Commonwealth Championship will bring together friends old and new, sharing a common understanding and reaffirming once again that old adage ’there’s more to fishing than catching fish’.
